TCR Asia race winners join inaugural SIC888

Shanghai International Circuit, China
2 October, 2018

Macau’s Elegant Racing Team are the latest to add their names to the growing list of teams entered for the inaugural SIC888 endurance event at Shanghai International Circuit on October 7, the Cupra TCR team making a late driver change to add even more depth to their experienced driver lineup.

A winner during the 2018 TCR Asia Series on the streets of Bangsaen in Thailand, Alex Liu will anchor the team, the seasoned touring and production car campaigner though joined by former team-mate Kenneth Look and 2017 TCR Asia Series rival, Malaysia’s WS Lai.

Title contenders in the hotly contested TCR Cup this season, the Elegant Racing Team have great experience with the Seat-built Cupra TCR and have been regular podium finishers and race winners in TCR Asia over the last two seasons.

Originally scheduled to be a part of the maiden SIC888 event, Macau’s Kelvin Wong will compete in the two final rounds of the TCR Asia Series where he holds a commanding lead in the points, but he will be replaced in the Elegant team by one of the fastest men in the 2017 TCR Asia Series, Lai Wee Sing.

The Malaysian – driving last season for his own R-Engineering team – is one of the most experienced production and touring car drivers in his home country, with a reputation around Asia as one of the quickest drivers in a tin-top, experience he will be hoping to put to good use in his first drive for the Macau-based team.

China’s Kenneth Look meanwhile will also bring good experience to the team, the production car winner also has experience competing with the Elegant Racing team in 2017, as part of a two-driver team in TCR China’s combined events last year with TCR Asia, a strong run to a podium finish in Zhejiang the highlight of that partnership.

With a number of TCR China teams also signalling their interest in SIC888 with a six week break between their fourth and fifth race weekends, the TCR field is starting to take shape and is expected to present a great focal point for the fans.
